Silk Road

If we were to go back in time to the 1960's, you would find that Kabul the capitol of Afghanistan was  known as the Paris of Central Asia...

Hard to believe now, but back then Kabul was full of fashionable stores and a growing cosmopolitan mood.

Imagine visiting centuries old bazaars filled with beautifully hand embroidered coats, silk turbans and gold galore.

This editorial is dear to my heart since I am Afghan and was done by  American Vogue in 1969.  The editorial team was there to  showcase some of Afghanistan's fashion and famous sites.

In the 1960's Afghanistan's biggest import in fashion was the goat skin coat. It flourished Vogue's pages back than and even now we see it redone on runways all over fashion week.

This editorial shows a different side of Afghanistan that many may not know.So here is a look on how it was and can be again...
